What’s your most under-rated cigar?
Many of us have a cigar that some people think is “less than premium”. Why? Usually its because they haven’t heard of it and, more likely, they haven’t smoked it because “It’s just an old (fill in the blank). I don’t know about you, but I’ve smoked some great sticks that other folks turn up their noses at.
I have had some great house brands and bundles that make the more expensive cigars seem like the sweepings from a hamster cage. I have also had some smokes from mainstream companies for $3-$5 a stick that I go back to time and time again because they’re always the same great smoke.
One of my favorites is the Punch Rothchild Double Maduro. It’s a medium to full-bodied cigar with a touch of sweetness from the wrapper. I’ve smoked these for the past 20 years and I can count on one hand the number of problems I’ve had with them. They always have a good draw and burn; the flavor is consistent on every stick and the price point is usually around $4.50 to $5. I would easily compare them to some $10-$12 cigars on the market. It has Dominican, Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers under a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and Ecuadorian Oscuro wrapper. Try it. I think you’ll be surprised at the great taste and construction quality. A box of 50 is usually under $200.
So what’s your secret smoke? The one you smoke in private because you’re afraid your friends will look at you like you have 3 heads. And if they’re hard to find, let us know where you get them so the rest of us can enjoy what you’ve been hoarding all these years.
