If you are a cigar smoker you’ve already been meditating. You don’t have to sit on the floor in lotus position, no flute music or chanting are needed to get in tune with yourself. When you sit down to enjoy a cigar you’re already doing it. Not only that, but you are doing something that our ancestors have been doing for thousands of years. Tobacco has a history of being used in pipe ceremonies among the Native Americans. They consider tobacco a gift from the Creator and the tobacco smoke is considered carrying one’s thoughts and prayers to the spirits.
The gift of tobacco from mother earth “Gaia” is only one of the many attributes to her splendor. When we smoke her offerings we are one with nature and all living things. We are all connected and with the every exhale of smoke separation dissipates. Everyone is united through the love of the leaf. If you are smoking alone you are taking time to connect with yourself even if you don’t know it. To sit and be with yourself…feeling the heat of the cigar in your hand…admire the skillfully rolled body…smell the intoxicating aromas coming of the ignited foot…and enjoy the array of sensations and flavors tantalizing your palate. For many of us, it is a time where there is no time. Where you can just be present and enjoy the moment.
Life can be stressful and challenging but these “challenges” are there to help you evolve as a human being. A wise friend once said to me while I was in the face of adversity, “It will get better. It always get’s better.” And it did. So light that cigar and with gratitude in your heart, dream of the future you want for yourself.
