Hennessy Pure White Cognac??

Ok- let’s file this one under the “hmm….” files.

It’s a cognac…made by Hennessy… but it’s light in color and called Pure White. It’s sold mainly in the Caribbean and some parts of Europe, which means those of us in the USA need a passport or internet ninja skills to acquire.

I keep seeing this pop up in my social media feed from savvy cognac folks so I looked into it to find out more.

Hennessy claims this is “young” cognac, meaning it’s not aged in oak barrels (at least not as long as the others in their portfolio). This is why the color is not the rich amber we’re used to seeing in traditional cognacs. I’m wondering if this also means less hangovers? Being a Hennessy product, it is still made in France with white wine grapes from the Cognac region.

According to reviews, it has light fruity and floral notes and a clean taste. I keep seeing the words “delicate” and “light” in reviews and descriptions, so I have to assume it also has less depth compared to its sisters in the Hennessy line.

I also am really into the shape of the bottle. It has a much younger feel to it, which I’m assuming is who they are targeting with the product as a whole.

Has anyone tried it yet? What are your thoughts?

(If anyone wants to send me a bottle I will gladly accept. lol)

Hennessy V.S. Low-End of Hennessy But How does It Taste?

It’s no secret that Hennessy, a 250+ year cognac house with rich history, is known for its ultra high end, high price point cognacs that sometimes WOW and other times are okay. But at the low end point, (Around $30 USD) the Hennessy V.S. is often underlooked and in my opinion, underrated.

Is it going to give you the rich, deep notes that you’d often find in a $150-$200 bottle? Maybe not. Is it going to be perfectly fine for a low key night on the patio while enjoying a cigar? ABSOLUTELY.

The cognac is a blend of approximately 40 different barrels, each of which has been aged for up to 8 years in French oak casks and is bottled at a standard 40% ABV (80 proof).

My favorite thing to do with the Hennessy V.S., though, is to mix it to make a Classic Sidecar.

2019 Hennessy XO Commercial by Ridley Scott

Hennessy is no stranger to world class marketing and their latest XO commercial is another prime example of what a seemingly unlimited advertising budget can buy. Directed by Ridley Scott (whose massive filmography includes movies such as “Gladiator”, “Thelma & Louise”, “The Martian” amongst many many others),  the 4+ minute long commercial, “Seven Worlds” takes you on a journey of multiple intergalactic tundras, each showcasing the various tasting notes from the Hennessy XO. It’s a visually stunning display that makes me want to pour a glass of XO as I type. I’m sure it’s 5pm somewhere.
