#cigarlife #cigarlifestyle – Spirited Smoke

The World of Herf

I have no idea where the origin of the word “herf” came from. The urban dictionary defines it as a gathering of BOTL and or SOTL to relax, unwind, and smoke premium cigars.  This weekend I had the pleasure of attending my first herf hosted by David Blanco at Blanco cigar headquarters in Clearwater, FL

We arrived to copious amounts of aromatic smoke coming out of the warehouse. There were probably close to forty people in attendance of all ages and origins that had come together from all over. The winner of the longest milage was logged by fellow Privada Cigar Member, Kieran who had travelled all the way from Scotland!

We were Immediately greeted by David Blanco and kindly ushered into the facility where long tables were set up, a poker table, and a small lounge in the back. There were several tables offering a generous hors d’oeuvres and side dishes.  The other table offering a myriad of desserts followed by a plethora of libations including bourbons, scotch’s, and even some tequila that guests had brought to share.

After getting the lay of the land, David escorted us to his warehouse humidor that was stacked from floor to ceiling with boxes of different blends. A small table front and center presented a number of core blends to choose from for the evening smoke. The Blanco Nine in Torpedo was calling my name.

With cigars in hand we were promply intoduced to Bryan Glenn of Cigar Obsession who was on hand as the designated grillmaster, the New York Strip steaks were then cooked to perfection along with a baked potato with all the fixings. These steaks were huge!

Shortly after dinner I lit my Blanco Nine and joined the poker tournament. Beginners luck or dumb luck had me finishing second to a shark apply named “Hollywood”.  I won a Sin Compromiso cigar which I’ve been dying to try. The game over, we retired to the lounge where smoking, drinking and cigar conversation ensued.  My favorite libation of the evening was the Angel’s Envy bourbon that I had not tried before following closely with a Glen Deveron 16 year highland single malt scotch that Kieran had brought with him from Scottland.
Cigars for Warriors was there throughout the event offering a selection of cigars to purchase to be sent in care packages to soldiers.

All in all it was a great event and I left well satiated and fulfilled, that you very much to David Blanco for opening up his facility for the event and providing a great dinner and  atmosphere for all to enjoy. Thank you to Bryan Glenn for cooking my steak just the way I like it, rare!

Sunday morning found us at “Lenny’s” a local favorite recommended by Dave Blanco.  I had the Crab Benedict with Jalpeno Gouda cheese grits accompanied by a caraf of mimosas, what a great start the day!

We finished the trip off with a stop at Davidoff of Geneva in Tampa, described by Fellow Privada Cigar Club member Cory Davis as the “Disney world” for cigar lovers, he was spot on, I enjoyed an AJ Fernandez New World Robusto Connecticut paired with a cappuccino before continuing the 5 hour road trip home to Savannah.

Definetly looking forward to my next herf experience!
